OUR VISION
A Lizard Peninsula, which means all the parishes which traditionally form part of the Peninsula, where someone who lives, works or visits here in the future finds that its unique character has not significantly changed, and where progress and development have been sensitive and appropriate .
And What Will We Take A Stand Against?
The despoliation of our beaches, scenery, woodlands and wetlands and any part of this area of outstanding natural beauty.
Neglect of The Lizard Peninsula by the District Council which continues to be dominated by Redruth, Camborne and Helston.
Planning decisions which either choke sensible development or allow inexplicable and inappropriate things to be done.
Why Does Friends Of The Lizard Exist?
Friends of The Lizard has become a recognised and respected organisation, with members from all over the Peninsula - people of all ages and all backgrounds have joined together to give Lizard residents a voice. Although half of the land-mass of Kerrier District is The Lizard Peninsula, only five of the Councillors are from Lizard Wards, out of forty-three councillors. The Parishes are quite rightly focused on their own patches - so The Lizard had been left without any public organisation which looks at issues which are Lizard-wide. Friends of the Lizard is not an elected body and has no wish to become involved in party politics, but its members carry the Lizard's message to the outside world.
